Screening: The Fighting 69th (1940)

As part of the 2018 film festival, the MacArthur Memorial will screen The Fighting 69th (1940) on September 13, 2018. The Fighting 69th is based on the life of World War I hero Father Duffy, the regimental chaplain of "the fighting 69th," a unit of predominantly Irish-American national guardsmen who who served in General Douglas MacArthur's beloved 42nd "Rainbow Division." While highly fictionalized, The Fighting 69th provides an interesting look World War I, as well as real-life figures such as Father Duffy, future OSS leader Wild Bill Donovan, and poet Joyce Kilmer.
