President Truman and General MacArthur had serious disagreements over Korean War policy – particularly in terms of the response to China’s involvement in the war. MacArthur is often characterized as wanting to use nuclear weapons against China. In 1960, Truman went on a Chicago television program and said MacArthur wanted to use nuclear weapons. He then retracted these statements when General MacArthur publicly called for Truman to produce the evidence he ever did so. Did MacArthur want to use these weapons???
