Bilibid Prison

Thursday, October 21, 2021

During the Japanese occupation of the Philippines, Bilibid Prison served as a POW and a civilian internee camp. Prior to liberation in February 1945, thousands of POWs were processed through Bilibid before boarding the infamous "hellships" that would take them to forced labor camps throughout the Pacific. The camp also held hundreds of Allied civilians in deteriorating conditions. As General Douglas MacArthur's forces raced to Manila, Bilibid was targeted for liberation. Join Jim Zobel and Amanda Williams on October 21, 2021 at noon EST for a virtual discussion of Bilibid Prison and the 1945 race to liberate its captives. How do you join? The easiest way is to follow the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial on Facebook. When we go live from our Facebook page, you should receive a notification that we are "live." The presentation will also be added to the MacArthur Memorial YouTube channel at a later date.
