Marshall and MacArthur: WWII and the Korean War

Friday, December 10, 2021

It’s no secret that Douglas MacArthur had a paranoid streak when it came to his career. As his biographer William Manchester notes, he felt he had enemies in the army – “deskbound men who envied and resented a fighting officer.” This paranoia was apparent in World War I in his dealings with General Pershing’s Chaumont HQ staff – including the star of Chaumont, George Marshall. While he openly acknowledged the administrative skills of “deskbound” officers like Marshall, MacArthur’s internal distrust of Marshall festered in World War II and then had grave consequences during the Korean War. Join Jim Zobel and Amanda Williams on December 10 at noon EST for a virtual discussion of the MacArthur/Marshall relationship in World War II and the Korean War. How do you join? The easiest way is to follow the General Douglas MacArthur Memorial on Facebook. When we go live from our page, you should receive a notification that we are "live."
