World War II veteran Major David Van Vleet Howie (USA, retired) is turning 100 in November! Help us wish him happy birthday by signing this virtual birthday card!
During World War II, Major Howie served in Italy and saw combat in the Rome-Arno campaign, the North Apennines, and the Po Valley. He then served during the occupation that followed. He remained in the Army reserves and was recalled to active duty during the Korean War to train troops. He retired from the Army in 1962.

On October 15, 2021 at 10:00 A.M., the MacArthur Memorial will open a new special exhibit entitled: Command Presence: MacArthur, Media & Mass Appeal. This new exhibit will explore MacArthur's relationship with the press and the role mass media plays in the perception of heroes, villains, and major events. It will also trace MacArthur's evolution as a pop-culture figure and highlight the continued international resonance of this image.
This exhibit will remain on display until FALL 2023.
